Shawnee High School will advance to the NJSIAA Group 3 championship game after winning the semis over Princeton High School on May 22.

On paper, the two teams seemed pretty evenly matched, and as the game played out, demonstrated that this was true.  Shawnee entered the game with a 16-1 record, and Princeton, 16-3.

The Renegades took a 4-3 lead over Princeton in the first quarter.  After that, both teams scored two goals each in the second and third quarters, leading to an 8-7 score line going into the final quarter.

Tacking on another pair in the fourth, the Renegades’ offense continued its string of two goal quarters.   Meanwhile, Shawnee held the Tigers to just one goal, taking a 10-8 victory.

Led by the duo of junior midfielders David Smith and Steven Boyle, Shawnee’s offense was consistent throughout the game.  Smith scored twice and added on an assist while scooping up 16 groundballs.  Boyle quarterbacked the offense, dishing out four assists.

Max Busca and Jack Tyrrell, two other juniors who stepped up, both added on two goals each.  The load of junior talent not only shows how good this Shawnee squad is now, but how good it will be in the future, as well.

Now Shawnee advances to 17-1 this year, currently holding the 48th rank in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings and 4th in New Jersey.  The Renegades advance to the Group 3 finals to face Moorestown on Saturday, May 23.

Key Players:

David Smith- 2 goals, 1 assist, 16 groundballs

Steven Boyle- 4 assists
